Gals!! It’s that time of year again where all of us gather our lists of what to get from the annual Sephora sale based off of every recommendation out there and then we’re overwhelmed at all the options. I got an amazing suggestion from someone in my IG fam that requested a list of the “brown babe must haves” and I was inspired! So here is a list of everything I think a brown beauty would benefit from during the sale:
,JOUER COSMETICS HIGH COVERAGE CONCEALER:
I think every brown babe has her specific criteria as to what makes for the best concealer to cover up pigmentation, discoloration & everything in between that we have to deal with just a little bit more. The reason I like this particular concealer is that it provides full coverage, but is hydrating (it’s packed with hyaluronic acid) and feels light. It is also a dream to blend out. Not to mention comes with a range of colors that *actually* doesn’t require you to mix and match to find your ultimate shade! GASP! My perfect shade is Honey.
Tip: When choosing a concealer I like to go about 2 shades lighter, no more than that. This makes it workable year round and also prevents that dreaded reverse raccoon eye you can get from flash photography at night! Also, you don’t have to use a full coverage concealer but I like to keep my foundation or base light and then amp it up with a concealer that will provide lasting coverage where I need it.
BEAUTY BLENDER BOUNCE LIQUID WHIP LONGWEAR FOUNDATION:
This foundation was met with some controversy when it launched last year, and I had the chance to get a first look at it. I think the main reason was that in it’s efforts to being more inclusive it spoke to the middle range (which most brown babes fall under) rather than white or black. I was actually pleased to see a brand pay attention to the subtle nuances of the shades in between black and white. There literally is a shade for every brown skin tone in this collection, which can be overwhelming to match but when you do it’s well worth it! The formula is more medium to full coverage so a little goes a long way. I use 1 pump with my illuminator of choice (will get to that next) and apply with a damp beauty blender for that perfect airbrush finish. It’s beautiful and great for oily or dry skin. It’s good! I’m shade 3.3 which is medium with some gold undertones.
,BARE MINERALS COMPLEXION RESCUE HYDRATING FOUNDATION STICK:
Because no brown babe is created equal I had to bring out another foundation option. This is for that gal on the go, no time to sit and blend and just needs to look pulled together effortlessly. This has been a favorite of mine since it launched earlier this year. The formula is unlike any other – it literally feels like you’re putting water on your face in the best way possible – and again, the color range is brown girl friendly. It is light to medium coverage and very buildable. Huge plus is that it comes in stick form so no messy spills or pumps, and it has SPF25. It’s a staple in my bag! I’m shade 06 Ginger
,NARS ORGASM LIQUID HIGHLIGHT:
If you follow me on IG you know a good liquid highlight is a must in my makeup bag! I mix it with my moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation or whatever my base is for that day. You might also know that my Cover FX custom enhancer drops were the only thing I would use until now (although still a staple). Well, this formula is light and the pink shade is so complimentary on brown skin tones.
Tip: For my oily skin babes, don’t be afraid to use this. Just take 1-2 drops and mix it in with your foundation. I promise you a glow from within that will not disappoint.
,COVER FX MONOCHROMATIC BLUSH & BRONZER DUOS:
Findind a brown beauty friendly blush can be hard! It’s either too light that it doesn’t show up on our skin or way too dark that it should be used as contour. I have been obsessed with these duos not only for the beautiful pigments and color range, but also for the multipurpose aspect. Literally your blush, highlight and bronzer in one! My faves are sunkissed bronze and mojave mauve, but really you can’t go wrong with any of them!
Tip: For extra oomph, spritz a little face mist or setting spray onto your brush after dipping into the highlight and apply to high points of your cheek, forehead, cupids bow and bridge of your nose.
COVER FX DEWY SETTING SPRAY:
I love me a good setting spray and this is one of my absolute favorites! I also think it’s a little more brown girl friendly for those days we go extra with our makeup for wedding events. Sometimes all that layering can be a bit much and this helps bring vitality and a little dewyness back to your face. It works incredibly well, especially if you have dry skin that is thirsty for moisture.
Tip: I like to spray this throughout my makeup application process. I spritz before foundation, after setting my under eyes and then once completely done. It really helps give off that natural glow look without compromising the work we just did to set everything in place! Dew yourself a favor and pick this up!!! 😉
LAURA MERCIER ROUGE ESSENTIEL SILKY CREME LIPSTICK:
OMG are these beautiful! The formula is so smooth and doesn’t bleed and I’ve actually started venturing out with color thanks to the beautiful range this has to offer. The best part is that this offers a satin finish so it’s not matte and not shiny – a perfect balance of both! I’m loving Rose Vif at the moment which is a complimentary shade for all us brown beauties!
BARE MINERALS GEN NUDE PATENT LIQUID LAQUER
Us brown babes probably have the hardest time with nude/neutral lip shades. Bare minerals gen nude gloss is one of my favorites! This shade above is Yaaas and it’s goood! It goes on slick and provides a ton of shine but it’s not overly sticky. The other shades are just as pleasing on melanin infused skin so check it out!
NUDESTIX MATTE BLUSH & BRONZE:
I love multipurpose stick makeup and finding one that is brown girl friendly is a win-win. This blush & bronze stick in sunkissed glides on smoothly and the finish is gorgeous. It doesn’t dull the skin and works well for textured skin too.
Let’s move on to my favorite part, skincare! A good face starts with a good base, so let’s get into what I’ve found to work for brown beauties!
SUNDAY RILEY CEO VITAMIN C BRIGHTENING SERUM:
This had to be at the top of my list because vitamin c is one of my all time favorite skincare products! I get so many questions from you ladies on IG about what to use for pigmentation issues and evening out skin tone, and this is probably one of the best products on the market! It’s highly-potent, fast-absorbing serum infused with 15 percent THD ascorbate (vitamin C) to fight the look of dullness, dark spots, and discolorations, while instantly increasing brightness, radiance, and luminosity.
BEAUTY BIO GLOPRO MICRONEEDLING TOOL:
I have loved this tool since I got to interview the founder, Jamie O’banion, a few years back. I have an entire
,SUPERGOOP, UNSEEN SUNSCREEN:
Sunscreen is a must everyday but it can be hard to get the optimal coverage we need from these thick formulas that leave a heavy white or grey overcast on our face. Enter Supergoop. It’s literally transparent and absorbs quickly into your skin leaving no trace of the product. It’s also oil free and water resistant!!
DRUNK ELEPHANT T.L.C. SUKARI BABY FACIAL
Now in my late 30’s I rely on at-home peels that keep my skin up to date. This one is great with AHAs & BHAs is great and is also an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin. Main reasons for using a product like this? It helps smooth texture, minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles, refine pores, and boost overall clarity and radiance in skin. Being South Asian I feel like my skin has the tendency to look sallow when I’m rundown or tired and this always gives my skin that kick I need to really get it in check.
These are just a few of my faves for the sale but check out my IG stories where I do weekly GRWM videos and share a ton of new products! Hope this helps you gals when shopping and figuring out what to get!!! Remember you can shop all these products below or by following me on the liketoknow.it app!
